I Finally Found My Voice After Years Of Allowing Myself
To Be Silenced By Others -- Laury McIntyre

When you call Laury McIntyre's home, Sucess Stories - Laury McIntyre
you can't help but smile when you hear her answering machine's closing line: "Have a Yippy Skippy Day!" exclaims the effervescent 45 year old. But life wasn't always so uplifting.

In a period of a year and a half, Laury lost her mother to ovarian cancer, her job had become unfulfilling and the relationship she was in became increasingly more dysfunctional. "I hated my job, my relationship was going nowhere and I was literally watching my mom die. I was at a choice point and knew I needed a change but wasn't sure how to go about making that happen. I never really made choices for myself before. I had always gone along with everyone else to 'keep the peace.' It was my pattern to give my power away, then resent them for the decisions that I never made."

Laury was recommended to Sharon through a friend, who spoke very highly of Sharon's ability to help "sort out the pieces" of people's lives who are in disarray and to coach them into creating healthy new lifestyle patterns. Laurie began by taking Sharon's weekly "A Course of Miracles" class. "I knew I needed some guidance and encouragement." Laury and Sharon went to work on reframing the parts of Laury's life that just weren't working anymore.

Changes happened quickly when Laury found a satisfying career as a high school recruiter for an Art school outside of Philadelphia. The next goal was to separate from her relationship in a civil manner, find a new place to live, and move out on her own. "Sharon's coaching was instrumental to my process. The first thing she did was encourage me to up my moving date. I began to feel a sense of comfort and ease with Sharon and the others in the group and develop a sense of trust, something I had been hesitant about my entire life. Trust and comfort levels did not come easily to me with regard to other people."

"What I love most about Sharon's style of coaching is that while she is able to listen and be sympathetic, she didn't allow me to get caught up in my drama. Her style of coaching helped me to claim responsibility for past mistakes and create new experiences for my life. Each week we would recap, either in a coaching or group session, then summarize the intentions of what I wanted for that week, then watch it manifest. It was amazing!"

It was during this time Laury also took advantage of a birthday gift of a Reiki session given to her by a friend. After the session childhood memories came flooding back. "I had known I was molested as a child, but I thought I had dealt with it. No such luck. I was going to a college fair for work, driving over the Market Street Bridge in Harrisburg. I realized it was the one year anniversary of my Mom's passing and in a week I was to finally going to move into my own apartment. Suddenly all these memories came flooding back from my childhood. My mind literally shut down and I was sobbing, I ended up in a situational depression."

"With Sharon's coaching, I learned that I needed to completely forgive my Mom for not getting me more help when I was a child to deal with the molestations. I realized I had never told my Mom that these acts happened more then once, had she had known, I believe my parents would have had handled the situation differently. And the big step was to ultimately forgive myself. I realized I had been hard on myself for many years because I thought it was all my fault. I actually had the memory of seeing myself as a five year old being fooled and tricked into being alone with my perpetrator. It was that memory that allowed me to see through a child's mind and finally forgive myself, because it was not my fault. At that moment, my entire focus shifted!"

Laurie is currently attending Sharon's year long class entitled "Embrace Your Magnificent Self!" "Years ago I wouldn't have been able to do that, because I was feeling anything but magnificent. I've never grown so fast. I'm moving myself forward in all aspects of my life. Good sense and spirituality began to replace the negativity and fear.

I am now doing what I love, I am in a partnership I love, I'm in the best relationship I've ever been in. I am learning to maintain a healthy balanced life as I incorporate new behavior patterns into my life choices. I am learning to live empowered! I finally found my voice!"
