Potential Becomes the Action that Transforms Our Lives -- Dr. Becky Gillaspy
"I understand my mindset and thoughts impact my results." is the motto Dr. Becky Gillaspy lives by, and the proof can be seen in the success she's achieved both on a personal and professional basis. A Certified Wellness Coach, Chiropractor, Author and speaker, "Dr. Becky" as she is affectionately known, has appeared numerous times as an expert guest on local radio and television programs. She is also the author of Lose Weight Without Losing Your Love Affair with Food, and a featured author for Ezine Articles.com.
"Looking back over the years, it's interesting to see where, as a whole, our priorities have shifted in society. If you look at the difference from twenty years ago to current day, people are much more focused on their total well-being. It's not just about tangible material, it's about feeling fulfilled from within as well. It's a very refreshing and powerful time!"
Dr. Becky brings a lifetime of experience, education and professional training to her work and is an inspiration for those looking to break free from destructive issues surrounding food and their weight. "When I was in chiropractic college and first growing my business in the early nineties, my focus was entirely on the business aspect of things- and as a result, I let myself go physically. I realized quickly that I wasn't alone. So many people tend to throw themselves into other things- whether it's family, a business, etc- and lose themselves in the process. And we reward ourselves with the instant gratification and comfort of food, which then becomes a cycle. I chose to break that cycle for myself, and once I felt confident in my principles, I wanted to share them with others."
Dr. Becky met Sharon through a professional business women's organization approximately five years ago and felt an immediate connection with her. "Sharon has been a wonderful resource for me with my business. I "pick her brain" whenever I need advice when I want an objective, professional opinion on something that just isn't balancing for me. She has taught me the benefits of living in gratitude and she has a wonderful ability to clear my focus when issues become cloudy. Her gift lies in the open and caring manner in which she teaches. She is emphatic without being intimidating."
Using the principles she now teaches, Dr. Becky has maintained a significant weight loss for the past 8 years. "I get up every morning and have my "ideal day checklist." It's the core of each day and one of the key tools I use in staying balanced and on track. I also meditate and keep a journal where I reflect not on what's just happening in my life today, but what I envision for tomorrow."
One of those "visions" was seeing herself complete a marathon, which she achieved in 2007. "Something I couldn't have imagined doing years ago!" So how does this wife, mother and business owner manage to keep everything in the flow? " Of course I come up against daily challenges like the next person, but my philosophy - which is one Sharon and I share and part of the reason I find her knowledge so valuable- is it's all in how you maintain the balance. Using tools like meditation, journaling and daily check lists keep us on track- in addition to living in the moment and in gratitude. It takes real effort- and the gifts we receive as a result in mind, body and spirit are priceless."
In addition to speaking and coaching, Dr. Becky maintains a popular website called Weight Loss without Worry which is dedicated to connecting people with the tools they need to effectively lose weight. "There is potential in all of us, and through awareness and understanding, that potential becomes the action that transforms our lives."
Coach's Note from Sharon: It has been a joy connecting with Dr. Becky as two coaches' sharing ideas and support. I was blessed to have her "Personal Success Story" in my latest book, "4 Principles for Living Abundantly" about how she used belief statements in preparing to run her first marathon, finishing with a time of 4:44.
Also, I did an expert interview with Dr. Becky that you can listen to here: Expert Interview with Dr. Becky (4.8mb MP3 file, 40 minutes)
